Fibroblast growth factor 1 (acidic), also known as FGF1, is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. FGF-1 is the only member of the FGF family that binds with high affinity to all four FGF receptors.1FGF1 plays an important role in hematopoietic stem cell homeostasis.
