It is produced in leukocytes by enzymatic processing of a precursor called platelet basic protein, PBP (1). Mitogenesis, synthesis of extracellular matrix, glucose metabolism and synthesis of plasminogen activator are stimulated by CXCL7 (2-3). In addition, CXCL7 chemoattracts and activates neutrophils.
