Cymax (rat) MCP-1 ELISA
A small cytokine that belongs to the CC chemokine family. Recruits monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to the sites of inflammation produced by either tissue injury or infection. Primarily secreted by monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells. To become activated MCP-1 has to be cleaved by metalloproteinase MMP-12. Augments monocyte anti-tumor activity and is essential for formation of granulomas. The MCP-1 chemokine is also expressed by neurons, astrocytes and microglia. Has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or atherosclerosis.
